Kate lijdt aan de ziekte ALS waardoor ze niet meer zo mobiel is. Ze besluit daarom Bec, een doelloze en zelfingenomen studente, in te huren om haar te verzorgen, ondanks de bezwaren van haar man. Wat voor Bec echter begon als een parttime baan transformeert in een levensveranderende ervaring als haar relatie met Kate haar verandert in een jonge vrouw met vertrouwen en ambitie.
