Basada en hechos reales. Rubin "Huracán" Carter era un boxeador negro que se sobrepuso a su problemática juventud y se convirtió en aspirante al título de los pesos medios. Sin embargo, sus sueños se vinieron abajo cuando, en junio de 1966, fue injustamente acusado de un triple asesinato ocurrido en un bar de Nueva Jersey. Condenado en un juicio lleno de errores, Carter fue condenado a tres cadenas perpetuas.
